Program Overview
OCSC offers soccer for every age and stage, from a first introduction to the game to competitive travel soccer. Here’s what to expect at each level.
PreK/K
OCSC’s program for PreK and Kindergarten players is all about introducing the youngest athletes to soccer in a fun, low-pressure setting right here in Ridgway. Players practice twice a week at the Solar Ranch fields, focusing on basic skills, coordination, and teamwork through age-appropriate games and activities. There are no formal games at this level — just two weekly practices designed to build confidence and a love for the sport, all close to home. This program is a great fit for families looking for an easy, local introduction to soccer for their youngest players.
Academy (1st–6th Grade)
OCSC’s Academy offers a fun, low-pressure introduction to soccer right here in Ridgway, for players in first through sixth grade. Players practice twice a week on weeknights at the Solar Ranch fields, building skills and making friends close to home. Games are played in Montrose at McNeil Fields as part of the Montrose Recreation District League, either Thursday evenings or Saturdays during the day. Families should plan for the short drive to Montrose on game days, with practices staying local in Ridgway throughout the week. This program is a great fit for players looking to learn the game, stay active, and enjoy soccer in a friendly, community-focused environment.
Mountain Region League (U12 & U14)
The Mountain Region League is a step up in competition from the Academy, offering a more advanced level of play for players ready to take their soccer further. Through the Colorado Soccer Association, your player will compete against teams from across the Western Slope — clubs like Montrose, Telluride, Crested Butte, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, and Grand Junction. It’s a great opportunity for kids to experience a higher level of competition and soccer outside Ouray County, often for the first time. As you register, please keep in mind: away games will require travel, typically on Saturdays, with most trips being day trips. Some weekends may include two or more games, particularly when travel to a more distant club makes a single round trip less practical — so please be prepared for the possibility of a fuller weekend schedule. Because opponents and locations aren’t finalized until all Mountain Region clubs register their teams, we won’t know the full season schedule or exact travel distances until closer to the start of the season. We know travel is a real commitment for families, and we’ll share schedules as early as possible so you can plan ahead. If you have questions about what to expect, reach out to us before registering.
